The gear you carry with you will have a direct impact on your likelyness of survival. It is important that you know what gear to carry. Knowing what to carry won't do you much good if you don't know how to effectively use it. It also won't help you at all if you fail to actually pack and carry it. Planning and execution are critical. You should have a mini survival kit and a larger set of equipment for longer trips that are planned in advance. You might have one kit for hiking, one for camping, and one that you always just keep in your car. These are obviously going to contain different sets of tools.
